Bike-Friendly Bites

(LA Trend) — Thanks to L.A.’s year-round good weather, avid bikers and hikers can enjoy uninterrupted outdoor weather, but the more casual cyclists may confine their bike journeys to the spring and summer months. No matter if you’re a casual cruiser or a die-hard cyclist, you can enjoy a variety of bicycle-friendly pit stops across the city.

Pedals and Pints

This Thousand Oaks brewery is the ideal place to catch a broadcast of The Tour De France and enjoy some craft brews. Sip a Double Traction, an Imperial IPA with piney, grapefruit, and dank notes plus Citra hops, or stop by for a weekly cask ale release on Thursday. When your stomach inevitably starts to rumble, order Magic Forest pizza topped with Asian mushrooms, garlic cream sauce, pearl onions, truffle oil, and goat cheese or a side of chargeable, cheesy tots. Grab some friends and bike to this friendly taproom founded by two self-proclaimed bicycle aficionados.

Bicycle Coffee & Roastery

Founded in 2009, this Oakland-based roastery has expanded to Los Angeles and Japan. You can also feel good about the coffee you’re drinking because Bicycle Coffee donates a portion of all proceeds to World Bike Relief, a nonprofit that connects people through the power of bicycles. During the pandemic, Bicycle Coffee temporarily closed their East 2nd Street location and switched to online orders.

Spoke Bicycle Cafe

Part bicycle rental and retail shop, part-cafe, this enduring L.A. establishment is a must-visit for bikers in the know. Walk-in and a bike for the afternoon, including fun models like the adult tricycle, then return your rental and enjoy a selection of healthy food and coffee. Enjoy a Spoke Veggie Burger with waffle fries. This housemade delight features a smoked mushroom and beet patty with tempeh bacon, wild arugula, pickled onions, heirloom tomato slices, and garlic aioli. Sip a cold brew or a ginger orange Cubano while catching up with your cycling buddies.

à bloc

Stop in for bicycle repair and stay for the micro-roasted coffee and vegan food. Founded by lifelong cyclist Kjeld, this charming shop is known for its tasty coffee and seasonal menu. Enjoy all-day breakfast like the hit Màcmuffin Breakfast Sandwich made with an organic baked egg, ham off the bone, cheddar cheese, and house-made aioli on an English muffin or pick up some vegan jerky (made of mushrooms) to fuel your ride.
