(LA Trend) — Come on down to The Mint for an evening of amazing live music with Gidon Shikler, Thatcher, Kendra & The Bunnies, Daphne Gale, and XNK.
Gidon Shikler is a multi-instrumentalist singer and songwriter from the Sunshine State, who is currently cultivating his distinctive, groovy sounds straight out of his own sun kissed studio on the California coast. Inspired by multiple nationalities and roots that are as varied as they are far reaching, Shikler’s free-spirit vibe always informs his music, giving his audience a one-way ticket to Reggae Heaven. With a knack for creating authentic grooves, Shikler seamlessly fuses elements of rock, jazz, soul, and roots-rock-reggae, resulting in a sunny, infectious sound that is every bit as expressive as the Jamaican legends who inspired him.
During his time living in Jamaica, Shilker collaborated with such legendary artists as Sly and Robbie, Beres Hammond, and Clive Hunt, among others, many of whom lent their hands, hearts, and ears to help propel his music to new heights of originality. These various influences can be heard on Shikler’s EP, Rise, released in 2016, which gained major airplay and found its way onto the revered DJ David Rodigan’s BBC 1 Radio Xtra show, Dennis Bovell’s “Dub on Air”, and Chuck Foster’s “Reggae Central” on KPFK.

Writing and playing music since a young age, Gale has garnered numerous distinctions and accolades: she was a National Young Arts Foundation Finalist in Voice in 2015; a Songwriters Association of Washington award recipient in 2018; and a Songwriting Fellow for the Middletown Lullaby Project in 2018.
Gale has lent her musical talents to several large projects, including co-directing the Massillon Conservatory Children’s Choir in Paris in 2018; composing for the short film, Karaoke Superstar, in 2019; and composing Above the Noise, an oratorio which received the Gwen Livingston Pokora Prize and debuted off-broadway at the Dixon Place in 2019.
