Online Wednesday Night Poetry Workshop

(LA Trend) — While current restrictions have postponed the Beyond Baroque Literary | Art Center’s usual programming, they are still committed to offering a range of free and low-cost online workshops to the community. One of the programs that continues in this new format is their Wednesday Night Poetry Workshop, the West Coast’s longest-running free poetry workshop.

Here, experienced as well as aspiring poets can share their work and get feedback from their peers in a fun and relaxed online environment. Participants are encouraged to spend some time before the workshop begins learning how to share documents on Zoom, as it will keep the session moving more smoothly and quickly.

If you would like to join a workshop, please sign up at least 24 hours before the next meeting, after which you will be contacted with instructions on how to participate. While you should expect to share at least one poem, because this workshop is quite popular and can attract high attendance, not all participants will have a chance to share their work.

Workshop facilitators are rotated quarterly. Currently, the Wednesday Night Poetry Workshop is being facilitated by poet James Maverick, a local figure who’s been involved in the Los Angeles poetry community for more than 25 years. He’s spent much of his time curating and hosting readings throughout Hollywood, the South Bay, and the San Fernando Valley, and has had his work published in The Moment, Onyx: Spoken Word, The Best of Next… Magazine, and Voices From Leimert Park Redux.

The Wednesday Night Poetry Workshop is held every Wednesday on Zoom from 8pm to 10pm. Click here for more information and to register for an upcoming meeting.
